Are you passionate about the food you eat and concerned about where it comes from? This evening will set you thinking – and you can even have supper while you learn!
Little Gransden Village Hall event tickets from TicketSource.
Six Inches of Soil is a delightful film charting the inspiring story of British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food. The film follows three young farmers in their first year of production and has a real local connection as it features Adrienne Gordon of Sweetpea Market Garden, Caxton and is produced by Claire Mackenzie from Barrington.
We are delighted to bring a screening of the film to Little Gransden Village Hall on Friday 29th November. Our evening starts at 6.00pm with a locally produced supper and then continues with the screening from 7.30pm and then a short panel discussion followed by a Q & A to round off the evening.
Tickets for the full evening are just £15 and are available from http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/little-gransden-village-hall from Friday 11th October and there is also an option to join just the screening, panel discussion and Q&A from 7.30pm priced at £8.00.
The evening will be introduced by Nik Johnson (Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough) and the panel will include Andy Greaves (Nightingale Farm, Great Gransden), Adrienne Gordon (Sweetpea Market Garden, Caxton), Claire Mackenzie(producer, Barrington), Mike Home (Red Kite Rural, Great Gransden), Felicity Emerson (Fat Hen Farm, Great Gransden) chaired by Jenny Jefferies (food writer and broadcaster, Little Gransden) so it’s a very local affair.

Talk, Q&A and Book Signing
“A huge thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge of the use of the natural resources and methods available to farmers and fishermen, not only in the UK but internationally.
It was so interesting to learn about ‘Regenerative Agriculture’, and the soil samples you brought along aided in demonstrating the desired result of the methods used. Hearing, and seeing via your slide show, the work involved in food production in the various countries, was enlightening and thought provoking. Thank you also for bringing the delicious samples of recipes in your lovely books. We wish you continued success in all you do.”
Harston WI (4th September 2024)
“Jenny came to speak for us as part of our food writer events programme in Shaftesbury. She was a delight to work with in the run up to the event as well as speaking brilliantly on the evening. Her knowledge and passion shine through in her presentation. She makes it interactive with samples from recipes including the best chocolate cake I think many of us had ever had – beetroot is obviously the trick! She also brought soil samples and we were able to pass these around and not only hear from her about the difference between different ways of farming but also see and smell it!
Feedback from our customers has been hugely positive about the event and I wouldn’t hesitate to invite Jenny back again.“
Sarah Rudder (The Kitchen Table Dorset – 19th June 2024)
“It was a delight to have Jenny demonstrating on stage with me. Her calm gentle nature shone through with her passion for The Love of the sea and the land. Jenny’s inspirational books promoting British farming and fishing give her a wealth of stories and recipes to deliver on stage which she does with ease and professionalism.”
Andrea Wallace (Sandringham Craft, Food & Gift Fair 2023)
“It was a pleasure to hear Jenny speak with such persuasive passion and expertise. She is a great ambassador for linking the land we farm and love to the wonderful food we produce.”
Geoff Sansome (Head of Agriculture at Natural England)
“Jenny gave us a very interesting and thought provoking talk keeping us fully engaged from start to finish. Delivered with passion for the subject, knowledge and understanding. Even our farmers were impressed and based on the number of questions our members were clearly enjoying her talk.”
Sue Shaw (President, St Neots St Marys Rotary)
“Jenny was a speaker at a book event in our village. Her talk was thoroughly enjoyable and proved a talking point for the whole day and beyond. She is enthusiastic and knowledgeable and her first-hand experience of the world of farming and food shines through. Her books attracted a great deal of attention. They are beautifully presented and give countless examples of small producers who care passionately about the quality of their food.
As a thought-provoking speaker, Jenny is excellent. It is also reassuring for organisers of events to deal with someone so genuine, responsive and professional.”
Fran Johnstone (Organiser, Horningsea Book Day, September 2023)
“Jenny was a delight to work with from start to finish. She was generous with her time, offered articles from her book for educational purposes, and compered on our Main Stage for a full day. Jenny made everything run smoothly and was informative and knowledgeable. It was a joy to have her at the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival and hear more about the incredible work she and her family do.”
Bella Scarr (Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival, September 2023)
