Jenny Jefferies is a prominent British food writer, cookbook author, and advocate for sustainable agriculture and fishing, based on a regenerative arable farm in South Cambridgeshire. Her work centers on celebrating the people behind the UK’s food systems—farmers, fishermen, and producers—while promoting food provenance, sustainability, and education.

Jenny has authored several acclaimed cookbooks that intertwine recipes with stories from the UK’s farming and fishing communities:

  • Islands In A Common Sea (2024) – a global exploration of food systems, with proceeds supporting the UN World Food Programme’s ShareTheMeal campaign.  

Her books have received notable recognition, including the Guild of Food Writers Award for Best Self-Published Work in 2022, Best Independent Book Award 2023, Sustainable Winner by the International Impact Book Award 2024, Best International Cookbook by the NYC Big Book Awards 2024.

Columns, Broadcasting & Public Speaking 

Beyond writing, Jenny contributes regularly to publications such as Country & Town Housethe Cambridge Independent, and Rural Life.  She also used to present and produce a weekly show on Black Cat Radio, amplifying voices from the UK’s rural and coastal communities.   

As a speaker, Jenny has participated in events like the Speciality & Fine Food Fair, discussing topics such as regenerative farming and ethical food production. 

Campaigning 

As a campaigner, Jenny spearheaded the first ever British National 24hr social media campaign #Fish24 to highlight and celebrate the British fish and seafood industry.

Food Policy and Philanthropy 

Jenny is deeply engaged in food policy discourse, focusing on issues like food security, rising input costs for farmers, and the importance of food education. Jenny emphasizes the need to support farmers and fishermen as stewards of the environment and food systems.

Jenny’s advocacy extends to educational initiatives, such as donating a portion of her book profits to programs and charities like the United Nations, World Food Programme ShareTheMeal Campaign, the Food Teachers Centre’s ‘Fish in Schools Hero’, aiming to introduce young people to cooking with fish and seafood, The Food Safety Foundation aka Yellow Wellies, The RNLI and the National Literacy Trust.
